TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Low-cost carrier AirAsia has opened a new route to continue developing domestic connectivity in Indonesia. The company will serve the Jakarta (CGK) - Medan Kualanamu (KNO) route starting March 18, this year, with three times a day direct flights.
"We'll begin expanding the domestic route this year by answering the amount of public demand for additional direct alternative flights between Jakarta and Medan," AirAsia Indonesia President Director Veranita Yosephine said in a press release quoted from its official website Wednesday, February 5.
She hopes the new Medan route will increase connectivity to other cities in Indonesia such as Semarang, Surabaya, Bali, Lombok, Sorong, Labuan Bajo and Belitung which are connected through Jakarta.
The ticket for the new route can be ordered from February 3 through the company's website and application with a special price starting from Rp680,000 for flights from Jakarta to Medan Kualanamu and starting at Rp695,000 from Medan Kualanamu to Jakarta. The price offered also includes free luggage up to 15 pounds for adults and children.
The departure schedules from Jakarta to Medan Kualanamu are at 06:30, at 12:10, and at 17:50 Western Indonesia Time. Meanwhile from Medan to Jakarta, the flights will depart at 09:25, 15:05, and 20:45 Western Indonesia Time.
"We hope the new AirAsia route can re-stimulate tourist visits to North Sumatra from Jakarta and also from other cities in Indonesia that are connected, and vice versa," said Veranita.
