TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The coronavirus outbreak in China has caused the supplies of imported garlic in the Kramat Jati Central Market to experience shortage on Monday.
"Usually the supplies of garlic reach 30-40 tons per day for the needs of Jakarta. Currently only four tons," said Kramat Jati Central Market chief Agus Lamun in Jakarta, Monday, February 3, 2020.
The reduced supplies of garlic from China to the Kramat Jati Main Market have occurred periodically since the last few days. Initially, the supplies had dropped by 16 tons, but today there are only four tons left.
"Our garlic still relies on imports from China. The issue there is growing corona constraints, the possibility of restrictions on imports from China," he said.
As a result of the coronavirus outbreak, the price of garlic commodities in the Kramat Jati Central Market surged by an average of Rp7,000 per kilogram. The normal price is around Rp28,000 per kilogram, but now it has leapt to Rp35,000 per kilogram. "The supplies are not normal, they tend to drop, and this has caused to price to rise,” he said.
