TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A woman who lived alone was found dead at her home in Cipinang Cempedak, Jatinegara, East Jakarta, Monday morning. The police confirmed the woman, whose body was found by her neighbors, died of illness.
"According to residents, the victim lived in the house alone and had a history of heart disease," the East Jakarta Police’s chief of criminal investigation, Adj. Sr. Comr. Herry Purnomo, said in Jakarta today.
The victim is known as Rita, 60, a resident of Jalan Berdikari II RT02 / RW09 Cipinang Cempedak, Jatinegara District, East Jakarta.
The incident began when a witness named Bramwetan, who was a neighbor of the victim, smelled a pungent odor from the past three days.
Several neighboring victims had thought the odor came from the rat carcass in the victim's house. "But this morning at around 07.00, witnesses saw many flies coming out from the victim's house," he said.
Bramwetan along with his partner then broke through the victim's house because the fence was locked and the door was locked. "It turned out to be true, the witness saw the victim had died in the kitchen," he said.
The witness reported the discovery of the woman's body to the local RT head and continued the report to officers at the Jatinegara Police Station. At around 08:00, the police went to the scene and checked the victim's condition. "The results of the examination of the victim's body found no sign of violence," said Herry. The body was then taken to Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM) for examination.
