Sri Mulyani Wants Solutions to Raise Manufacturing Investment

31 January 2020 07:33 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati said there were major problems in actualizing investment in the manufacturing sector. These problems, she said, must be solved immediately so that the sector would be more effective in creating jobs.

The minister said that the central and regional governments must find solutions that will improve investment and employment.

"That way, resources can be utilized to create ample jobs," Sri said on Thursday, January 30.

Sri Mulyani’s statement referred to the Investment Coordinating Board's (BKPM) data on investment in the manufacturing sector. Records showed that investments have declined for three consecutive years after reaching a peak in 2016 when actuated investments amounted to Rp335.8 trillion.

Since then, investments continued to drop. In 2019, only Rp216 trillion of manufacturing investment plans were realized.

This year, the government is targeting an investment realization of Rp886 trillion, of which the manufacturing sector is expected to contribute Rp246.3 trillion.
