TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Minister of Law and Human Rights Yasonna Laoly denied that he intentionally saved himself by removing Ronny Sompie from the latter's position of Immigration Director-General. He stressed that Ronny was the most responsible official for the misinformation about the whereabouts of a graft suspect Harun Masiku.
"[He is] the most responsible person on the case," said Yasonna at the Parliament Complex, Jakarta, Wednesday, January 29.
The PDIP politician claimed he had for several months requested the system to be improved.
Ronny was sacked from his position on Tuesday, January 28, for his statement regarding the return of the fugitive.
Yasonna said on Wednesday that his side found oddities on Ronny's remark on Harun Masiku's whereabouts which prompted the dismissal.
The Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI) chief Asfinawati considered the removal of Ronny Sompie as the ministry's attempt to save Yasonna Laoly. She asked President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo not to be fooled by the performance of his aide. "The dismissal proves there is a problem in the Ministry of Law and Human Rights," she said.
