TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is scheduled to inaugurate the Nanjung tunnel project in Bandung, West Java today, January 29. The tunnel is located in the Hulu Citarum area in Curug Jompong,
The project's inauguration was carried out after the Public Works and Public Housing Ministry completed construction work. The tunnel will be part of the Citarum River flood control system.
Nanjung Tunnel's construction began in November 2017 with contractors PT Wijaya Karya and PT Adhi Karya. The project received a state budget allocation of Rp316.01 billion for its construction cost.
Tanjung Tunnel consists of two tunnels with a length of 230 meters each, and 8 meters in diameter. Both tunnels are expected to help reduce flooding in Baleendah, Dayehkolot, Andir, and surrounding areas.
With the completion of the project, Bandung's inundated area is targeted to shrink from 3,461 hectares to 2,761 hectares. The tunnels will also increase the capacity of the Citarum River from 570 cubic meters per second to 669 cubic meters per second.
