TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Following the dismissal of the director-general of Immigrations Ronny Sompie due to the polemic surrounding the whereabouts of PDIP’s legislative candidate Harun Masiku, Immigration’s director of system and technology Alif Suadi has also been dismissed by Law and Human Rights Minister Yasonna Laoly.
“Yes, the director-general of immigrations and the system and technology director has been replaced temporarily by acting-directors,” said Yasonna at the State Palace Complex on Tuesday, January 28.
According to Yasonna, the two leaders were dismissed as to prevent a conflict of interest during the independent team’s investigation on the silent return of Harun Masiku to Indonesia.
This independent team was formed by Yasonna that consists of members of the police’s cybercrime unit, the communication and informatics ministry, BSSN, and Ombudsman.
The directorate-general of immigrations has come under the national spotlight in the past week after Harun Masiku, suspect in a high-stakes bribery case, managed to return to Indonesia from Singapore without being detected by the immigration office.
Immigrations initially denied Tempo’s investigation stating that Harun Masiku had already returned to Indonesia but it was only recently that immigrations admitted of being wrong by blaming a “system miscommunication” which allowed the info of Harun’s arrival to be delayed.
