KPK Extends Wahyu Setiawan's Detainment by 40 Days

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The lawyer of former General Election Commission (KPU) commissioner Wahyu Setiawan, Toni Akbar Hasibuan, said his client’s detainment had been extended by 40 days.
“Today there is no examination, only the extension of detainment. As he has been detained for 20 days, this is the second extension, 40 days. That was all. There is no further examination,” said Toni in the KPK Building in Jakarta on Monday, January 27, 2020.
Wahyu is suspected to have received bribes from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle’s (PDIP) legislative candidate, Harun Masiku. The bribe by Harun Masiku was allegedly given to pave his way to become a member of the House of Representatives (DPR) through the intermittent switching mechanism.
The KPK has named Wahyu and Harun as suspects. In addition to the two, the KPK also identified Saeful Bahri from the private sector and Agustiani Tio Fridelina, a former member of the Election Supervisory Board, who is also a confidant of Wahyu, as suspects in the case.
The KPK nabbed Wahyu, Agustiani, and Saeful in a series of sting operations on Wednesday, January 8, 2020. The KPK has seized Rp 600 million from the total bribe value, promised to be at Rp 900 million. Harun managed to escape from the operations.
