TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State Secretariat Secretary Setya Utama confirmed that the permit for Jakarta Administration’s revitalization of Monas (National Monument) has yet been approved. Not only that, Setya revealed that the city administration has not even submitted the request for a permit.
“No. We have never been asked for a permit officially to revitalize Monas,” Setya told Tempo on Wednesday, January 22.
Weighing in on the issue, Setya said the management of Monas must take into consideration the security of vital objects in its vicinity. “Including the State Palace,” he said.
In today’s meeting, Jakarta’s Council (DPRD) Commission D speaker, Ida Mahmuda, urged the government to temporarily postpone the project as there are no official recommendations from the State Secretariat.
She highly recommended the city administration to consider her suggestion to prevent further confusion regarding the Monas revitalization.
Referring to the President’s Regulation No.25/1995, the revitalization of cultural heritage sites, such as Monas, must be equipped with an official recommendation from the State Secretariat.
