Korea's Gyeongnam Interested to Be Sister City of Tangerang

TEMPO.CO, Tangerang - Gyeongnam Province, South Korea, expressed interest in establishing a sister city status with Tangerang City, Banten. Today, January 22, the Tangerang administration welcomed the visit of the Gyeongnam office director in Jakarta, Yoo Seung-hee.

The Gyeongnam office marketing manager in Jakarta Anastasia said the visit aimed to discuss the sister city cooperation plan with Tangerang. Three cities proposed are Changwon, Gimhae and Haman City.

During the discussion held in the Tangerang administration building, Yoo Seung-hee showed interest in cooperating with Tangerang because of the city’s location that adjacent to the capital city of Jakarta.

“The first reason is, Tangerang City is located near Jakarta,” Seung-hee said, adding that many Koreans living in the city hailed from Gyeongnam.

“There are Korean people in Tangerang, and we have informed that half of them from Gyeongnam,” the provincial office director added.

Therefore, further meetings in light of the potential partnerships plan between Tangerang City and three cities of Gyeongnam, South Korea will be scheduled.
