TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan has laid the first stone for the construction of Transjakarta’s Asean Bus Stop located on Jalan Sisingamangaraja, South Jakarta, on Wednesday, January 22. The bus stop construction will integrate the city’s bus service with Mass Rapid Transit or MRT Jakarta.
Anies said the construction of MRT stations and Transjakarta bus stops was not initially planned to be integrated so that becomes the government’s challenges.
“We underline that all public transportation in Jakarta must beat off the challenge of integration,” said the governor in his speech during the groundbreaking ceremony at MRT Asean Station.
The construction, he explained, would be executed in two phases. The city administration earmarked Rp33 billion for the first stage that was expected to meet for completion in August this year, while the second stage was targeted to finish in December. The total budget reached Rp55 billion.
“This construction project has been planned since March last year,” Anies added.
As of date, the governor admitted that the bus stop was considered non-friendly especially for the elderly, pregnant women, and people with disabilities given the high stairs which are equal to a 7-story building.
Therefore, Anies Baswedan said the integration program MRT Jakarta and the Transjakarta would better accommodate Jakartans and hoped the construction would run well as targeted.
