TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A midsize boat carrying President Jokowi’s media entourage reportedly sunk in Labuan Bajo during the president’s visit on Tuesday to one of Indonesia’s prioritized tourism spots.
Information obtained from one of the journalists attending Jokowi’s work visit states that journalists from SCTV, TVRI, Berita Satu, Antara, Liputan 6, Viva News, and the president’s press bureau were onboard the boat.
Fortunately, no reports of casualties in the incident.
“Suddenly a gust of wind came and the boat capsized,” said Desca Natalia, an Antara journalist who joined the group.
President Joko Widodo visited Labuan Bajo on Monday, January 20, 2020. He wants the destination to be elevated by repackaging its selling points to better attract tourists, hoping that they will stay there in a longer period of time.
“The premium tourism area we are eyeing for is to differentiate [Labuan Bajo] from other locations. We hope tourists would spend more here, stay longer, that is what we hope for,” said the president in a meeting at the tourist area.
