TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Gerindra Party faction and the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) faction of the Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD) have finally submitted two deputy governor candidates to Governor Anies Baswedan at the City Hall, Central Jakarta.
Gerindra faction members Mohamad Taufik and Syarif and members from PKS faction Muhamad Arifin and Achmad Yani visited the City Hall today, January 21.
“We’d like to submit [the candidate names] to the governor directly,” said Taufik at the City Hall on Tuesday.
However, Taufik was reluctant to give further comments and quickly entered Anies’ office along with the entourage.
The two names of potential deputy governor candidates are Riza Patria who is a Gerindra politician and Nurmansjah Lubis from PKS. Their names were recently decided in replacement of the previous ones that had been submitted to the Jakarta DPRD, Achmad Syaikhu and Agung Yulianto.
Taufik mentioned that Anies Baswedan would then deliver the letter noting the candidate names to the Jakarta DPRD to determine the city's deputy governor in a plenary meeting.
PKS and Gerindra had long made arguments on who would replace Sandiaga Uno in leading the capital city of Jakarta. Both deemed to have rights as parties who supported Anies Baswedan and Sandiaga Uno in the 2017 regional election.
