TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) through their legal team, has ensured that Minister of Law and Human Rights, Yasonna Laoly will not intervene in a case that ensnares one of the PDIP cadres, Harun Masiku.
“No way, no way. In terms of authority and status, intervention is not possible,” said member of the PDIP Central Board (DPP), Maqdir Ismail, in Jakarta, on Sunday, January 19, 2020.
According to Maqdir, no problems were found regarding the individual who announced the PDIP legal team's handling of the Harun Masiku case. Especially as a PDIP cadre, Yasonna Laoly became the Chairperson of the PDIP DPP in charge of law, human rights and legislation.
Maqdir also mentioned that Yasonna's presence at the time was only to give an introduction. Furthermore, in the criminal proceedings of the case, Yasonna only acts as an observer who does not have the authority to intervene, according to Maqdir.
“I don't think there is anything wrong. Moreover, he has no authority to intervene, in real detail, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). He is the Minister of Law and Human Rights (Menkumham). In the criminal process, Menkumham is only a spectator,” said Maqdir.
Yasonna's presence at the PDIP legal team press conference regarding the Harun Masiku case was criticized, due to his position as Minister of Law and Human Rights, who should support the KPK's investigation in uncovering the bribery case of the Commissioner of the General Elections Commission (KPU), Wahyu Setiawan.
Meanwhile, Yasonna reaffirmed that he is unable to intervene in the investigation of the alleged bribery case, regarding the selection process of the candidates’ through an interchange period.
“There isn’t any (intervention), how could I intervene, what could I intervene. I don’t have any authorities,” said Yasonna.
According to Yasonna Laoly, although he is the Chief of the PDIP Central Board; however, unless he is a commissioner of the KPK, he will not be able to intervene in the Harun Masiku case. “I am not (a commissioner of the KPK),” he said.
