TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) plans to conduct a deeper investigation on the Rp10-16 trillion losses experienced by state-owned Asuransi Sosial Angkatan Bersenjata Republik Indonesia (Asabri). This investigation is estimated to take around two months' time.
“It usually takes two months. We will summon the people involved,” said BPK member Achsaul Qosasi as Tempo reached him on Thursday, January 16.
He argues that the findings in the Asabri case will be revealed after the BPK finishes questioning every people involved in the scandal. However, he was reluctant to mention the names of people that the BPK planned to summon.
BPK’s initial findings on Asabri found that the company recorded a total asset of Rp31 trillion in August 2019, which is a significant drop compared to the financial report Asabri published on December 31, 2017, of Rp44.8 trillion.
According to the State-owned Enterprises Minister, Kartika Wirjoatmodjo, Asabri sustained losses from the value reduction of its shares and mutual funds. Kartika was unable to definitively mention the number of losses but assures that the losses had been long sustained by the state-insurer.
“We are researching this, we are investigating it with the BPK but we have not pinpointed the moment it first happened, but it seems to have been a prolonged process,” said Kartika at the Supreme Court (MA), on Monday, January 13.
As of 2019, the shares in Asabri’s portfolio started to fall with devaluing shares reaching 90 percent throughout the year.
