TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Water Resources Office (SDA) is planning to buy submersible pumps to anticipate flood on their next procurement of goods. Head of River and Coastal Affairs of the West Flow System of Jakarta SDA Department, Ciko Tricanescoro, ensures that submersible pumps are waterproof.
"In the future, we will use submersible pumps. So that there will be no impact for the pumping operations if the floods are extreme," Ciko said when met at the Cideng pump house, Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta, Monday, January 13, 2020.
In the west stream, a new submersible pump is installed at Tomang Barat Pump House, West Jakarta. Ciko said that flood water also entered the Tomang Barat pump house when the floods hit the capital starting on January 1, 2020. However, the pump remained operational and was not damaged due to the use of submersible types.
He explained that the average pump in Jakarta is still using the old type. For example, the pumps in the Grogol Reservoir, West Jakarta and Teluk Gong, North Jakarta.
Previously, floods hit Jabodetabek (Greater Jakarta) area on January 1 after non-stop heavy rains. As a result, a number of areas in Jakarta flooded.
