KPU Bribery Case; ICW Urges Hasto Kristiyanto to Come Clean

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian anti-corruption watchdog, Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW), strongly urges the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) secretary-general Hasto Kristiyanto to be cooperative with law enforcers if he is indeed involved in the alleged bribery in the General Elections Commission (KPU).
“If he is indeed allegedly involved, he should remain cooperative. He should obey summons as a witness to the case,” said ICW’s domestic law division, Kurnia Ramadhana in Makassar on Monday.
Kurnia also called for the cooperation of Hasto’s political party by providing the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) with relevant data that would assist the investigation process.
Moreover, ICW also urges KPK to be bold and question Hasto together with other people allegedly involved in the bribery case of Wahyu Setiawan, former General Elections Commission higher up.
After the suspect-naming of Wahyu Setiawan, KPK also named suspects in Harun Masiku and Saeful Bahri, with the latter being Hasto Kristiyanto’s personal staff member. Harun Masiku allegedly bribed grab a seat in the House of Representatives (DPR).
Hasto Kristiyanto has strongly denied his involvement in the bribery and claims that his political party PDIP is being preyed by Wahyu Setiawan together with the press.
