TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bribery suspect Saefulah was officially detained by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on Friday morning, January 10. Saefulah was arrested under suspicions of acting as the intermediary who delivered the bribe money to KPU commissioner Wahyu Setiawan.
Saefulah was arrested after undergoing an interrogation. The man, allegedly a PDIP staff, was taken by a car to the KPK's C1 detention center. He declined to answer reporters' questions. Saefulah was then named as a suspect.
Saefulah's arrest was part of the KPK's sting operations that took place on Wednesday, January 8. Earlier that day, the antigraft body arrested KPU Commissioner Wahyu Setiawan.
Wahyu is suspected of receiving a bribe of Rp400 million from the North Sumatra PDIP Electoral District Candidate I, Harun Masiku. This case is suspected to be linked to the fight for the parliamentary seat left vacant after Nazarudin Kiemas was killed before being appointed as a legislator.
Until Friday morning, the KPK has named four suspects. They are Wahyu and his aide Agustiani Tio Fridelina—a former member of the Bawaslu—as bribery receivers. In addition, the KPK also named Harun and Saeful who were in charge of contacting Agustiani, as the bribers.
