TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Deputy Lili Pintauli asserts that the suspect-naming of General Elections Commission (KPU) commissioner Wahyu Setiawan is a betrayal against democracy.
“The conspiracy between members of the elections' organizers with politicians can be viewed as a betrayal toward what has been established with great difficulty and costs, democracy,” said Lili in a press conference today.
Lili maintains that the legal process conducted by the KPK is an effort to save KPU as an organization before it is further ruined by “troubled individuals” which may lead to further damages.
The KPK had named 4 suspects in the naming of this term’s House of Representatives (DPR) members. The list of suspects that the anti-graft watchdog named are; KPU commissioner (WSE), former Elections Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) (ATF), and two people from the private sector, SAE and HAR (Harun Masiku).
KPK launched its sting operation (OTT) on Wahyu Setiawan on Wednesday, January 8, 2020, as he was about to depart to Belitung onboard a commercial flight. KPK also nabbed 7 people.
