TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has officially named General Elections Commission (KPU) Commissioner, Wahyu Setiawan, a graft suspect following the sting operation (OTT) on Wednesday, January 8.
“[KPK] has named WSE (Wahyu Setiawan) as a suspect for receiving graft,” said KPK Commissioner Lili Pintauli Siregar in a press conference at the KPK headquarters on Thursday, January 9.
The case allegedly involves a fight for a position in the House of Representatives (DPR) seat left vacant by former PDIP faction member, the late Nazarudin Kiemas in the South Sumatra electoral region.
According to the collected data, PDIP intends to replace Nazarudin’s position at the DPR with Harun Masiku, but on the other hand, KPU has decided on Riezky to fill the vacant seat after arguing that Riezky Aprilia has obtained the most votes after Nazarudin.
Harun Masiku allegedly bribed Wahyu Rp400 million to claim the empty legislator’s seat, which is believed to be sourced from two middlemen with initials; D and S.
Based on circulating information, the two people are staff members of PDIP secretary-general Hasto Kristiyanto. However, Hasto claims innocence regarding the bribe scheme and is waiting for KPK’s official statement in regards to their involvement.
