Jokowi Brings Investment Agenda to The UAE

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) pitched in a special agenda in his coming visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), from the 11th to the 14th of January, 2020. One of Jokowi’s major agendas is to bolster investment in Indonesia.
“The President is planned for a visit to the UAE, the heavy of the visit is in regards to investment,” said the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Retno LP Marsudi, after the officiation of the Opening of Work Meeting of the Chief Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the State Palace, Jakarta, on Thursday, January 9th 2020.
Currently, a team from the Indonesian Government, in tandem with a team from the UAE Government, has opened discussions on a planned cooperation between the two governments, as well as between businesses in the two countries.
“The plan is to have a number of Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) signed, from the most number of businesses,” said Retno.
According to her, the two countries are now preparing for the development of multiple cooperations, to be finalized in time for Jokowi’s visit to the UAE. “In regards to the value, it’s still fluctuating, but I believe the visit to the UAE will hold great economic significance,” said Retno.
A few of the agendas planned to be carried out are the bilateral meeting with the Crown Prince and Jokowi’s attendance in Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week. Within the forum, Jokowi is planned to be a key speaker in the discussion of sustainable construction and energy, amongst others.
Retno has underpinned that during his visit, President Jokowi will be on a mission to expand investment. “Because our emphasis is on investment and this is a follow up of the Crown Prince’ visit in June, last year.”
