TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - United Kingdom’s convicted serial rapist Reynhard Sinaga was not known by the country’s Indonesian Student Association (PPI). Members of PPI suggested that the Ph.D. student had never been in close proximity with fellow Indonesian students in the U.K.
President of the students’ association, Stela Clarisa Nau, said the current PPI U.K.’s management does not know Reynhard; “It seems Reynhard does not socialize with his fellow Indonesian students either in Manchester or Leeds,” she said.
Meanwhile, as reported by Antara, the Indonesian Embassy’s education and cultural attache Professor E. Aminudin Aziz explained that Reynhard’s records show that he was once present at the embassy back in 2014 as he applied for a Ph.D. Apart from that, said Aminudin, Reynhard lacked any traceable records.
He also confirmed the convicted rapist had never been active in the PPI U.K. organization in Manchester nor in Leeds.
In an official statement, the Indonesian Embassy in London stated that it highly respects the English Court’s verdict upon Reynhard Sinaga, who has been handed a life sentence - 30 years behind bars before being eligible for parole, which the court doubts he would qualify - for raping 48 men in 159 sexual assault cases from the span of 2014 - 2017.
