TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chairman of the Indonesian Mosque Council (DMI), Syafruddin, announced that mosques will act as temporary refugee camps for those affected by the recent widespread floods across the Jakarta Greater Areas.
“I call for DMI members to open mosques as temporary refugee spots for those who are affected by the floods, and also as locations to accommodate logistics to help our brothers and sisters who are affected by the flooding,” said Syafruddin in a written press release on Wednesday, January 1.
The former Ministry of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform also urged autonomous bodies overseen by DMI, such as The Indonesian Mosque Youth Communication Forum (BKPRMI), JPRMI, Prima DMI, and ISYEF, to volunteer in helping flood victims.
“Whatever their backgrounds may be, we shall welcome them all. Prepare logistics accordingly to assist the victims of the flood disaster,” Syafruddin announced.
