TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Defense Ministry’s special staff Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak said the meeting between President Jokowi and Minister of Defense Prabowo Subianto at the Yogyakarta Presidential Palace on January 1, was to discuss a number of matters regarding Indonesia’s defense sector.
“It was a friendly meeting [Silaturahmi] where Pak Prabowo also presented a report about Indonesia’s defense sector,” said Dahnil to Tempo on Wednesday night.
However, Dahnil was tight-lipped about the details of the discussion between the two former political rivals but did not deny there were talks about the recent incident at sea that saw China’s coast guard boat crossing over Indonesia’s border at Natuna Sea.
Moreover, on Prabowo’s schedule at the dawn of the new year, Dahnil said the Defense Minister was accompanied by his son Ragowo Hediprasetyo in his visit to Yogyakarta, while Jokowi was accompanied by his youngest son, Kaesang Pangarep.
“Alhamdulillah there were plenty of discussions related to family affairs but mainly discussed issues regarding the nation,” said President Jokowi from the Presidential Secretariate’s Youtube stream on Thursday, January 2.
Prabowo Subianto admitted that he presented his report on the defense sector, expressed gratitude toward Jokowi for making the meeting happen, and also wished a happy new year.
