Jokowi Asks for Normalization of Vital Objects Affected by Flood

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi asked for vital objects affected by the flood in Jakarta to soon be administered. The capital city has been hit by flood since Wednesday morning, January 1, 2020.
The president said he had received news on Jakarta flood that affects vital locations such as Halim Perdanakusumah airport, Cikampek toll, and some other vital objects. He asked for these issues to soon be settled, so the vital objects can return the operation normally.
"I think this should be handled soon, so those [objects] can operate normally," Joko Widodo said at Yogyakarta Palace as reported by the State Secretary YouTube channel on Wednesday, January 01, 2020.
Jokowi also conveyed that public safety should become the main priority. "What most important during the flooding is prioritizing anything related to the safety of the people."
He instructed the national disaster mitigation agency (BNPB), SAR team, and each provincial government to move together in providing security and safety for the people affected by the flood.
Flood inundates a number of regions in Indonesia. In Jakarta Greater Area (Jabodetabek), the rain fell since Tuesday afternoon, December 31, 2019, until this morning, January 1, 2020. The rain intensity increased from early morning until dawn.
According to the public report, almost every area in Jabodetabek is inundated by flood and it hampers people’s activities. State electricity company PLN is also forced to implement blackouts in several locations for safety measures.
