Govt Launches Religious Conflict Early Warning System App

30 December 2019 15:07 WIB

Deputy Religious Affairs Minister Zainut Tauhid. ANTARA

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Ministry of Religious Affairs has introduced an application-based religious conflict early warning and response system in a bid to track any religious discordance in the community.

“This system aims at preventing conflict by providing accurate information on potential conflict that is currently occurring or has happened,” said Deputy Religious Affairs Minister Zainut Tauhid Saadi during the launching event in Jakarta, Monday, December 30.

According to Zainut, the system technology that was developed by the ministry’s Jakarta Research and Development Agency was necessary for this current era, given rampant hoax distribution that was easily spread and affected the public.

The ministry’s Jakarta Research and Development Head Nurudin said the system had been developed since 2018, and his agency’s studies on the pattern of conflict regarding religions throughout 2004-2007 and 2008-2015 became their basis for the system development.

Nuruddin explained the system was built by using advance technology on communication and information as well as the availability of the ministry’s apparatus across the archipelago.

The ministry’s employees in each region, Nuruddin added, were tasked to observe the patterns of community life related to religions and upload valid information and data about potential religious conflicts to the application.
