TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Following the naming of the new national football coach Shin Tae-yong, the Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) chairman Mochamad “Irwan Bule “ Iriawan said he would not announce the new coach’s contract.
“As for his contract, we can provide whatever the number is. He chose Indonesia not because of the money, but for the challenge,” said Mochamad Iriawan in the announcement on Saturday, December 28.
He said the undisclosed contract is in respect of Shin Tae-yong's request as he asked for the value of the four-year contract to not be made public.
However, based on our sources, the contract of Shin Tae-yong is within the USD1 million-range or roughly Rp13.94 billion annually. This is based on his earnings as South Korea’s national football team coach in the 2018 World Cup.
At the time, the 50-year old coach earned a paycheck up to USD500,000 or roughly Rp7 billion in 2018. As a comparison, Shin Tae-yong once competed with Luis Milla, while coaching the Garuda squad in 2017-2018, for a soccer coach with monthly paychecks up to 80,000EUR.
