TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) announced that it is still hoping for President Jokowi to issue a regulation in lieu of law (Perpu) to overturn the controversial KPK Law revision that was passed this year.
“Yes, to be honest, we are clinging hope to this day for the president to issue a Perpu,” said ICW researcher, Kurnia Ramadhana, in a press conference dubbed “the fall of corruption eradication in the hands of a good person” on Sunday.
However, Kurnia said that it is a long-shot as there have been many nonsensical reasons announced by the government, such as claiming a Constitutional Court material test found that issuing a Perpu is no longer needed.
The ICW researcher also mentioned the new members of the KPK supervisory board, which the government deems as a reason why the KPK Law perpu is irrelevant. The regulation in lieu of law referred to by anti-corruption groups is the one that is hoped to annul the latest revision under Law No.19/2019.
“But it may be impossible for Jokowi to issue [the KPK Law Perpu],” said Kurnia.
