TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Metro Jaya Police have announced the arrests of two alleged police members who were allegedly responsible for the 2017 acid attack on senior Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigator Novel Baswedan

The chronology of the suspects’ arrests was announced on Friday, December 27, which was delivered by National Police spokesman Brig. Gen. Argo Yuwono. He said both men, identified as RM and RB, were nabbed in the area of Cimanggis, City of Depok.

“We secured both suspects last night,” said Argo without going further into details.

Furthermore, about the suspects’ positions within the police force, Argo Yuwono remained tight-lipped and only said that the suspects had just been arrested and were still undergoing police investigation.

“I haven’t even read the investigation report (BAP),” said Argo.

The arrests were the results of numerous police investigations and lengthy questionings of 73 witnesses.

KPK senior investigator Novel Baswedan was lethally attacked with liquid acid on April 11, 2017, on his way home from a nearby Mosque in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta. President Joko Widodo then ordered Gen. Idham Azis upon the former's inauguration as the National Police Chief to solve the case immediately. Idham said the police targeted to solve the case in December 2019.
