TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The West Java Police has sentenced five of its officers to 21-days of incarceration after proven guilty in committing physical abuse and violence during the eviction procedure at Tamansari, Bandung, West Java.
Two of the five policemen are members of the Bandung Police Mobile Brigade, or Brimob, while the other three are members of the West Java Brimob.
“Five members were proven guilty in committing disciplinary violations through physical harm during the eviction process. They have undergone an ethical court on December 20,” said West Java Police spokesman Senior Commissioner Saptono Erlangga Waskitoroso on Thursday, December 26.
Apart from the gentle punishment, the five police officers will also be handed promotion postponement for one whole period.
Some argue the act of violence against local civilians was deliberate police abuse that happened during the eviction at Tamansari in Bandung on Thursday, December 12, 2019. Most of their acts were revealed in numerous amateur videos online that spread like wildfire.
