TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - On Thursday, December 19, Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan went on a mini-tour cycling across the city to visit two locations that held groups of people singing Christmas carols in celebrating the spirit of the holidays. The carols were heard from the sidewalks of Bundaran HI up to Sudirman Senayan.
“We intend to have a third spot, somewhere in the route people use coming home from work to welcome the religious day of Christmas,” said Anies Baswedan in front of FX Sudirman yesterday.
According to the governor, the first public space Christmas festivity was made possible by partnerships with the city’s churches, schools, and campuses. There are also two large Christmas trees at Lapangan Banteng and Thamrin 10.
He asserts that it is meant to build a sense of unity and togetherness through equality for every group of people in Jakarta.
“And for our fellow Christian friends, it’s a joyous time to welcome Christmas,” said Anies. “I personally met with many of them just now, and I am grateful for the sense of togetherness that was present there.”
This religious festivity is scheduled to be held from December 18 to December 20 and for those that intend to share the spirit of the holidays and sing along with numerous Christmas carols, locations are spread across 11 spots in the MH Thamrin - Blok M corridor; Grand Hyatt in Bundaran HI, a number of MRT Jakarta Stations, Istora, Blok M, and Cipete Raya.
