TEMPO.CO, Bekasi - Toll road operator Jasa Marga denied that 13 cases of broken tires at Jakarta-Cikampek elevated toll road were caused by damaged road construction, especially by rough expansion joints.
Corporate operational director Subakti Syukur clarified that those incidents were attributable to users’ flat tires.
“When the tires are bald, it causes heat. So road users having bald tires should not use the elevated toll,” said Subakti at Jasa Marga office, Bekasi, Thursday, December 19.
Jasa Marga recorded 13 vehicle accidents due to tire explosion for the three-day operation of the newly-opened toll road. “Vehicles that will pass the elevated toll must be at prime condition,” Subakti underlined.
Traffic general manager Aprimon mentioned that 26 expansion joints of the toll were damaged, sparked complaints from the people.
“A total of 21 expansion joints have been revamped, the rest five will be renovated today,” said Aprimon, adding that the repairment did not cause road blockade.
The Jakarta-Cikampek elevated toll road has been operated since Sunday, December 15. The 38-kilometer highway is opened functionally for the public ahead of Christmas and New Year holidays. Thus, Jasa Marga has yet to set the toll fee.
