Sri Mulyani Says Indonesia Economy Unfazed by Trump Impeachment

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati commented on the United States Congress’ decision to impeach President Donald Trump that took place just hours prior on Wednesday, December 18.
“That is the political process in America, we must respect it,” said Sri Mulyani as journalists met her at Hotel Aryaduta in Central Jakarta today.
Asked whether President Trump’s impeachment will affect the economy in Indonesia, Sri Mulyani optimistically said; “Maybe not, because it was a lengthy process, we’ll just have to see.”
Previously, Reuters reported that a majority of lawmakers in the U.S. House of Representatives voted on Wednesday to impeach President Donald Trump on a charge of abusing his power by trying to pressure Ukraine to investigate a political rival.
As voting continued, supporters of impeachment crossed the 216-vote threshold needed to secure a majority in the House.
The vote, while along party lines, cast a cloud over the image-conscious Trump, putting him in a category as one of only four presidents out of 45 who have faced possible ouster through impeachment.
