TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Mahfud Md assessed that terror acts committed by an armed criminal group (KKB) in Kulapa Village, Intan Jaya Regency, Papua on Tuesday, December 17, proved the need for a security approach to counter separatist movements.
The attack claimed two lives of Indonesian Military (TNI) personnel. “The case is started by the separatist movement, persecuting apparatus. This happens again,” said Mahfud in Yogyakarta, Wednesday, December 18.
Mahfud underlined that the security approach in the eyes of the government is through development.
The program, he added, must be more comprehensive and relate to social lives, economy, cultures, and security enhancement, given the recurrence of such attacks.
“Inshallah, the government can handle the incident,” the coordinating minister remarked.
Regarding the reinforcement and additional security personnel in Papua following the attack, Mahfud handed it over to the TNI and National Police.
