TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Edhy Prabowo was determined to study the possibility to allow export of lobster seeds amid criticisms voiced from every corner.
“You must be laughing seeing this lobster polemic. I will not back down because what I am fighting for is the sustainability of our farmers, our environment, our nature,” said Edhy when giving a speech at an event in Jakarta, Wednesday, December 18.
He reiterated that the ministry was finalizing 29 problematic regulations, including on lobster.
However, he balked at commenting further when asked about those policies. “Just wait for the time,” Edhy Prabowo said.
Previously, several parties rejected Edhy’s plan to allow the export of lobster seeds. Harsh criticisms were expressed by former maritime affairs and fisheries Susi Pudjiastuti. Back when Susi was serving as a minister, the export was prohibited under a ministerial decree No. 1 of 2015.
President Jokowi also responded to the polemic on the export. He opined that whatever the decision to be made, the most vital things are the country and farmers earn benefits and the environment is not harmed.
Jokowi said there should be added-value from lobster seeds from which the government could consider the export plan.
