Political Parties That Could Back Gibran Rakabuming's Candidacy

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Apart from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), many other political parties have shown interest to back President Jokowi’s son, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, in the Solo Regional Elections of 2020. 

Here are the candidates:

1. Nasdem

Nasdem’s election manager Saan Mustopa said that his party does not have an incumbent in Solo. This situation opens the possibility for them to endorse Gibran if the moment opens up to establish a coalition. Saan says Gibran Rakabuming has the popularity, acceptability, and electability as a candidate.

2. Demokrat

Democrat Party secretary-general Hinca Pandjaitan says that the party is open to possibly partnering with Gibran in the region’s election as long as he maintains his capabilities and public support. 

3. PPP

The United Development Party (PPP) also echoes the previous two parties, however, PP secretary-general deputy Achmad Baidowi said that his party does not have the seats in Solo.

4. PKS

PKS secretary-general Mustafa Kamal says his party always supports any of the country’s citizens that have the capability and potential to become a leader. He even said that PKS might open a possibility to partner with PDIP, the party supporting Gibran and President Jokowi.
