TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - During his visit to the future location of Indonesia’s new capital city in East Kalimantan, President Jokowi envisions that residents of the capital city will spend more time walking and public transport-centric.
“Many people will prefer to walk, ride bicycles, and public transport. It will also be emission-free with vehicles that makes zero-emission. That’s how I envision it” said Jokowi in dialogue with journalists on Wednesday.
The location of Jakarta’s replacement sits in an area over industrial forest land partially in Kutai Kertanegara Regency and North Penajam Paser. Jokowi also suggests that the capital city will have more “green spaces.”
The president said a 100-hectare nursery garden will be built upon a prepared area which will be the future green space. “There will be no pollution or waste,” he said.
President Jokowi also mentioned that many areas that are destroyed will be revitalized to be the capital city’s attraction such as the Bekantan conservation for orangutans. “It may be a little far but it can be an attraction itself I guess.”
