Casino Money Laundering; DPR Speaker Puan Maharani Responds

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - In response to the recent overseas casino money-laundering scheme by a regional head, House of Representatives (DPR) Speaker Puan Maharani suggests the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (PPATK) file an official report to the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). 

“What we hope the PPATK will do after case-by-case findings is to report them to the attorney general’s office, police, or KPK,” said Puan Maharani at the Senayan Parliamentary Complex on Monday, December 16.

Not only did she call for the involvement of law enforcement officers, but Puan Maharani also suggested such cases should not be made public before it is properly reported. 

“Because it will cause buzzes or presume someone guilty. So It is better to report it first to law enforcers,” said Puan Maharani. 

Previously, the PPATK suspected there were a number of professional money laundering businesses that acted as consultants in Indonesia and helped corruptors avoid law enforcers and also revealed an Indonesian regional head who laundered money in an overseas casino.
