TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo ensured the draft of the omnibus law would be submitted to the House of Representatives (DPR) this week.
“Soon, perhaps we will send the draft omnibus law to the DPR this week,” said the President when opening the national development planning meeting (Musrenbang) on the National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN) 2020-2024 at the State Palace, Jakarta, Monday, December 16.
He said the first draft to be submitted would be on taxation. The government will then propose an omnibus law on employment and micro, small, and medium enterprises in January 2020. “We will focus on that,” the President added.
To expedite discussions on omnibus law, the former Jakarta governor claimed he had asked DPR speaker Puan Maharani to pass the bill within three months.
“I whispered to her if it was possible, it should be no more than three months because the world is rapidly changing,” he remarked.
He went on to say that regional heads could follow suit. Any regional regulations that hampered or beset the development could be simplified into omnibus law and submit it to the Regional Legislative Council (DPRD).
“Submit [the drafts together]. Simplify them. So you can work faster, more agile and flexible to deal with national or global changes. That’s the purpose [of the omnibus law]” Jokowi underlined.
