TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo, or Jokowi, formally asks regional leaders to compete in offering investors ease of investments, especially those that are aiming to invest in a region’s development.
“Don’t let there be regional administrations that prolong the permit of private investment, for example, that intends to build ports, airports, or highways. This is a major mistake. Especially in developing the industry, moreover the export-oriented industry,” said the president in opening the National Development Planning Conference RPJMN 2020-2024 on Monday.
According to Jokowi, export-oriented industries will be able to fix Indonesia’s trade balance deficit. Other than that, it will be able to create new job opportunities for people in rural regions and boost economic activities.
Moreover, the president expressed appreciation for regional administrations that have helped build infrastructures that connect industrial hubs such as airports or ports. However, Jokowi asked for the development of ports to be connected with other production areas; “Such as plantations, agriculture, small industrial hubs to help accelerate that area,” said Jokowi.
