  • TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The 2019 Bung Hatta Anti-Corruption Award's panel of judges have collectively decided that there are no worthy anti-corruption figures in 2019. One of the judges. Bivitri Susanti, considered 2019 as the mourning period for corruption eradication attempts.

"The panel of judges argued that this year has been the bleakest year for anti-corruption, nothing is worthy to be celebrated, but rather should be griefed," said Bivitri at the anti-corruption education center in Jakarta on Tuesday, December 10, 2019.

The panel of judges argued that the bleak-streak of anti-corruption begin with the troublesome Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) leaders appointed into the organization, and peaked when Presiden Joko Widodo together with the House of Representatives (DPR) passed the revision on KPK Law, which many considered to handicap the KPK.

Bivitri further explained that the panel of judges has made the decision unanimously. Other judges agreeing not to hold the award in 2019 are  Zainal Arifin Mochtar, Yopie Hidayat, Agung Pambudi and Betti Alisjahbana.

Moreover, Bivitri claims judges suggested for President Jokowi's Bung Hatta Award to be revoked but was eventually not done due to disagreements with the award's founder.
