TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister of Maritime Affairs and Investments Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, appears to be taking side with Pertamina Chief Commissioner Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama. Luhut even criticized those who dislike the former Jakarta governor.
"People who dislike [Ahok] are those who dislikes examination. Dislikes honesty. That’s it," said Luhut in a 'coffee morning' event at the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment office in Central Jakarta on Tuesday, December 12, 2019.
Previously, a number of criticisms were aimed at Ahok's appointment as Pertamina's top tier official. One of the criticisms came from House of Representatives (DPR) member Fadli Zon. Fadli said that the former Jakarta governor will cause unrest within Pertamina because Ahok has no expertise in the oil industry.
"They should look for professionals. Is he? He's not. What good is he in Pertamina?" said Fadli Zon on Saturday, November 23, 2019.
Rejections also came the Pertamina workers' union that officially announced their disagreement towards Ahok's appointment as Pertamina's Chief Commissioner. Despite the rejection, the government proceed with the decision and officially inaugurated Ahok on November 25, 2019.
Moreover, Luhut is confident that Ahok will show positive performance in monitoring Pertamina. The former governor has also started to conduct meetings with President Jokowi at the Presidential Palace in preparation for the launch of the company's biodiesel 30 (B30).
