TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The number of foreign tourists visiting North Sumatra Province increased 11.53 percent to reach 213,858 in the year ending October 31, 2019, as compared to 191,752 in the corresponding period last year.

Dutch tourists contributed majorly to the spurt in tourist arrivals, Chief of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) Office in North Sumatra Syech Suhaimi stated on Monday.

A total of 4,933 Dutch tourists had paid a visit to North Sumatra during the January-October 2019 period than 4,127 during the same period last year.

"Tourist arrivals from various countries declined. The number of tourist arrivals in North Sumatra was on the rise," he noted.

Like in the past years, Malaysia topped the list of foreign tourist sources in North Sumatra.

Until October 2019, the number of Malaysian tourists reached 96,775, down 10.87 percent from 108,166 a year earlier.
