TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia or KAI stated that 30-40 percent of train tickets for departures during 2019 Christmas and 2020 New Year holidays have been sold since D-Day minus 30.
“We have sold the tickets since D-Day minus 30 of the holidays. The purchase must have increased gradually until today. As for departures from December 19 to January 15, perhaps 30-40 percent tickets have been sold,” said the corporate director Edi Sukmoro at Pasar Senen Station, Jakarta, Monday.
Edi predicted that during this year-end holidays, there will be a hike in the train occupancy by 4 percent. The total daily seat capacity in 2018 was 240,162 seats, and will likely climb to 250,012 seats in 2019.
Besides, the number of passengers will rise by four percent from 5.6 million people in 2018 to 5.9 million people this year.
Therefore, KAI will operate 404 train routes comprising 374 regular train routes and 30 additional ones, a 2.5 percent increase compared to last year’s operation of 394 train routes.
Edi called on would-be passengers to book tickets long before the departure date. According to him, the train routes with the highest occupancy rate are Surabaya, Yogyakarta, and Solo.
Moreover, the existence of the double track in the north line will further raise the occupancy rate during this year's Christmas and New Year holidays.
