TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The head of the 212 alumni brotherhood or PA 212, Slamet Maarif, said he had studied the context and content of the speech delivered by Sukmawati Soekarnoputri comparing Prophet Muhammad with her father, Soekarno. He assessed that the remark was a blasphemy.
“Yes, we have reviewed the context. We have also consulted with multiple ulemas and language experts and asked for opinions from several MUI (Indonesian Ulema Council) management, [so we] conclude it is a blasphemy,” said Slamet after the 212 Reunion event at the National Monument (Monas) area, Jakarta, Monday, December 2.
Slamet called for legal proceedings against Sukmawati to legally decide whether there was a violation. He demanded Sukmawati be summoned and named a suspect first.
According to him, Sukmawati has previously committed blasphemy, and if the latest case is set aside, it will be harmful as it would jeopardize the public trust towards law enforcers.
“It’s detrimental should there be a lack of trust among the public towards law enforcers,” he added.
Sukmawati Soekarnoputri during her speech at an event held on November 14, allegedly compared Prophet Muhammad and Indonesian first President Soekarno as she asked who was the most meritorious figure for the country’s independence. She denied the accusations that she intended to defame the Prophet.
