TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The presence of Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan in the Monas (National Monument) square earlier today was immediately greeted with enthusiasm by participants of the 212 reunion rally.
For a number of times, Anies Baswedan was called by the adage “Indonesia’s governor” by people present there and by the chairman of the 212 brotherhood, Slamet Maarif.
“Thank you to the host, the governor of Indonesia,” said Slamet Maarif on Monday, December 2.
Slamet’s greeting for the governor was responded by the rumbling crowd there, who also shouted the same call to Anies Baswedan as he stepped up to the main stage to present his speech.
His presence is largely anticipated by the event’s participants. The governor constantly shook hands as he passed the rally participants from Monas’ main entrance to the main stage. Anies Baswedan’s presence in the 212 reunion rally is as a regional head where the event is held.
This year’s agenda will mainly focus on urging for the return of Rizieq Shihab and for the imprisonment of Sukmawati Soekarnoputri who has been accused of blasphemy after she allegedly compared the Prophet Muhammad with Indonesia’s first president Soekarno in one sentence.
The 212 reunion rally organizers claim more than 1 million people will participate in the event this year.
