TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A poll conducted by the Indonesia Popular Survei (IPS) concludes in its recent poll that Education and Culture Minister Nadiem Makarim is popular among Generation Z living in the Greater Jakarta Area (Jabodetabek).
Generation Z, or Gen Z in short, is described as the generation of people born from mid-to-late 1990s.
Out of the total respondents, 73.2 percent are aware of Nadiem Makarim, while 26.8 percent are unaware about the founder of ride-hailing giant GoJek.
“By this, we can conclude that Nadiem is pretty popular among Generation Z,” said IPS researcher Teguh Hidayatul Rachmad on Wednesday, November 28.
Teguh said that 61.3 percent of Gen Z respondents said they knew who Nadiem Makarim was through social media and other media platforms, but interestingly enough, the Minister himself does not actually have a social media account, he said.
“Nadiem does not have a social media account, but Generation Z knows much about Nadiem from social media. This means he is one of the hottest topics of conversations among Generation Z internet citizens,” said the researcher.
The poll was held within two weeks from November 11 to November 22 through a purposive random sampling, which took 537 respondents or samples that represented an area of population.
