TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A survey by Parameter Politik Indonesia revealed that people tended to be apathetic about information regarding the return of Islam Defenders Front (FPI) leader Rizieq Shihab.
The pollster’s executive director, Adi Prayitno, explained that their study found 24.6 percent of respondents were in favor of Rizieq’s return; 19.5 percent are against it; while 45.9 percent abstained.
Moreover, there were 31.7 percent of respondents who expected the government to assist Rizieq’s homecoming; 22.6 percent wanted Rizieq to remain in Saudi Arabia; while 45.7 percent abstained.
“This data show that, significantly, people are not taking notice of the issue. People are bored about it,” said Adi Prayitno at his office in Pancoran, South Jakarta.
He elaborated that the people supporting Rizieq Shihab’s return could be found at any age demographics and educational backgrounds, who were also supporters of Prabowo-Sandi. Meanwhile, those opting to refuse his return were mostly non-Muslims, Jokowi-Ma'ruf supporters, and backers of the PDIP, the PSI, and the PKB.
The survey was held from October 5-October 12, 2019, using a stratified multistage random sampling method with 1,000 respondents as samples.
