TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta City governor Anies Baswedan said he is evaluating the construction of a hotel at Taman Ismail Marzuki arts center in Cikini, Central Jakarta, following rejections by artists. The city legislative body (DPRD) had also trimmed the budget for the park revitalization program in the 2020 regional budget draft.
According to Anies, the revitalization of the arts and cultural center which includes the hotel construction he dubbed Wisma TIM is still under discussion.
“All plans are still being discussed, let’s wait until the 2020 budget draft is set,” said Anies after attending a ceremony to commemorate the Indonesian Civil Servants Corp (Korpri) anniversary in Monas, Central Jakarta, Friday, November 29. “I’ll review all of them.”
Previously, Anies said that the hotel construction project plan had been announced since a year ago, and it had also been reviewed for a long time.
The city administration, he added, planned to renovate TIM areas to not only function as arts and cultural venues or a meeting place but also to accommodate artists hailing from various regions in the country and abroad.
However, Anies Baswedan’s plan met with rejections by many artists. They opined there was no rush to renovate Taman Ismail Marzuki and feared the project was only aimed for commercialization.
