TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Metro Jaya Police investigators apprehended a total of 66 Chinese nationals on Monday, Nov. 25, across six different locations for their alleged involvement in an international crime syndicate.
The six locations used as the syndicate's headquarters were spread in Jakarta areas; BSD, Kebon Jeruk, Perum Intercon, and Tambora.
"As of now, our data suggests 66 Chinese nationals have been apprehended," said Metro Jaya's director of special crimes Grand Commissioner Iwan Kurniawan on Monday.
According to Iwan, the suspects could indeed increase as the police are investigating a similar syndicate in East Java.
"There is one more location in the region of Malang," said Iwan.
The 66 suspects arrested in the raid are currently interrogated at the Metro Jaya Police headquarters.
The Chinese nationals are suspected of running an online fraud scheme targeting their own countrymen in China through fraudulent phone calls claiming to be financial advisors.
